After taking in the view, snapping your summit photos, and basking in the glory of your achievement, your descent begins almost immediately. Staying at high altitude for too long is risky due to altitude sickness. Most climbers begin descending back to lower camps such as Barafu or Kibo within 30 minutes to an hour of summiting.
