Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – Uganda

The exhilarating gorilla trekking safari commences with an early breakfast at our accommodation, followed by a drive to the park headquarters with your guide. At 08:00, the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) personnel provide you with an overview of what to anticipate during gorilla trekking in Uganda. This distinctive, verdant, and varied forest represents one of the most affluent and diverse ecosystems in East Africa, reinforcing Uganda’s reputation as the ‘Pearl of Africa.’

This forest ecosystem sustains more than 120 mammalian species, 345 avian species, 200 butterfly species, and 160 tree species. Bwindi National Park is a vital conservation region, housing around fifty percent of the world’s most endangered mountain gorillas. With approximately 1,000 mountain gorillas remaining globally, this Uganda safari promises to be an unparalleled experience. The skilled rangers and trackers will join us throughout our gorilla journey into the verdant forest, commencing at the entrance of the gorilla sanctuary. The rangers provide information about these endangered primates on our gorilla walk in Bwindi Forest National Park.

Considering that gorilla trekking may require navigating steep inclines, ravines, and thickets for 2 to 6 hours, a commendable level of fitness is vital, in addition to durable walking boots. It is prudent to equip oneself with a raincoat, water, and snacks. Upon encountering a gorilla troop, we shall observe their intriguing behaviors. We observe their feeding, grooming, play, and resting behaviors from a respectful distance of 10 meters for around one hour—a gratifying experience that justifies the journey.

In the afternoon, we promenade through the next village. Our stroll through Buhoma village provides an intriguing insight into the lives of the communities residing near the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The journey offers both an authentic cultural experience and significant support to the inhabitants. We traverse with an informed local guide from the Buhoma Community Rest Camp, providing an interesting and rewarding experience for all visitors. Experience the creativity and adaptability of the Ugandan people while you investigate their rituals and traditions.

Following this genuine communal experience, we shall return to our selected lodging for a deserved meal and rest. Drift into slumber to the auditory ambiance of the Bwindi forest, reminiscing about the remarkable escapades of your day.
