Tour Overview

This 1 Day Trip to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary will lead you to the Ziwa Rhino refuge and wildlife ranch in the Nakasongola district, which is proud to be home to Uganda’s sole wild population of southern rhinos. The Rhino Fund Uganda and Uganda Wildlife Authority are the organizations behind the rhino reintroduction initiative. They’re conveniently situated 176 kilometers (100 miles) north of Kampala on the Gulu High Road heading toward Murchison Falls when you take the Nakitoma Trading Center branch.

The only location in Uganda where you can view rhinoceros in the wild is Ziwa, allowing you to add rhinos, lions, leopards, and elephants to your list of the “big 5” safari animals. Twenty-two southern white rhinos are currently housed in the sanctuary. The rhinos came from South Africa and Kenya for export. However, the population shows great promise, and rhino populations are steadily and gradually rising year after year.

 Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

Immediately after having your morning tea, by 7:00 am, our guide will pick you and take you up from your Kampala hotel or place of home and start the scenic drive via the well-known Luwero triangle via Masindi. Take a detour to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for a tour that includes a guided rhino walk or rhino trekking of the Southern white Rhinos. As a result, lunch will be served in the church after. Then, at your convenience, drive back to your hotel or place of home, where you will be dropped off.

Getting There

The trip will start from Kampala or Entebbe to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and you will be dropped off at your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe international airport after the trip.
