Introduction To Safaris In Uganda

The variety of animal encounters available in such a short area is one of the things that makes Uganda such a great location to explore.

Not only are the gorilla and chimpanzee populations in the southwest of Uganda well-known, but there are also three savannah safari parks nearby that may be easily coupled with a primate safari with just a short 2-hour drive.

As a result, even a short schedule of 7–10 days can include gorilla and chimp trekking in addition to traditional savannah safaris, where you can see animals like elephants, giraffes, lions, leopards, zebras, antelopes, and buffalo, to mention a few.

The Lay of the land.

Three savannah safari parks may be found in the southwest of Uganda: Queen Elizabeth National Park, Lake Mburo National Park, and Semliki Valley.

These parks are particularly popular choices because they can be readily paired with gorilla trekking in Bwindi or Mgahinga and/or chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest in just a few hours of driving.

There are two savannah parks outside the southwestern pocket: Murchison Falls National Park and Kidepo Valley National Park.

In the far north of the nation, Kidepo is usually only accessible by those with extensive travel plans or particular interests. One of the best safari locations in the nation is Murchison Falls, which is frequently paired with the south-western parks.

Safaris Inside & Outside The South Western Pocket.

Safaris Inside the Southwest Pocket

These safaris include the following National Park: Queen Elizabeth  National park, lake Mburo, and Semliki valley.

Uganda’s Queen Elizabeth National Park (QENP) is the country’s most biodiverse tourist destination. It is renowned for having lions and leopards that can scale trees.

Lake Mburo National Park: A great spot to unwind and an interesting site to explore is Lake Mburo and the surrounding woods and meadows. Here, sable and leopard sightings are common.

Semuliki National Park: Uganda’s first protected area. Semliki is a sparsely populated savannah reserve in western, isolated Uganda, not far from the DRC border. Enjoy walking tours, boat safaris on Lake Albert, and game drives.

Safaris Outside the Southwestern Pocket

These safaris include the following National Parks: Murchison falls and Kidepo Valley

Murchison Falls National Park: Is a fascinating place with a combination of wildlife including carnivores and herbivorous animals found in rich grasslands and the river Nile. Where the river and Lake Albert provide pristine wetland habitats, the savannah is home to large numbers of elephants, giraffes, buffalo, and lions, to name just a few of the headlines. Explore game drives, hot air balloon flights, and boat safaris when your visit the game park

Kidepo Valley National Park: Run riot. Kidepo is the best safari destination if you prefer your safaris to be dramatic and remote. Be forewarned: leaving is difficult. Kidepo is a pair of river basins bordered by mountains in the extreme northeast of the nation, not far from the borders with South Sudan and Kenya. This is the only location in Uganda where you can view cheetahs during the dry season. Climb into the mountains to meet the Ik, and get to know the proud Karamojong people that live around the park. Go on foot and game drives to explore.
