This brief Kruger Safari commences in Johannesburg or Pretoria, South Africa. On the initial morning, our shuttle service can get you from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg at 07:00, or from the specified pick-up location in Pretoria at 07:30. The shuttle departs from Pretoria and proceeds northeast to Greater Kruger Park.
We traverse the Waterberg Biosphere Reserve, then descend the Magoebaskloof Mountains, proceeding to the Kruger Lowveld region of South Africa. Between 13:15 and 13:45, the shuttle arrives at the Timbavati Gate Bush Pub & Inn near the entrance of the Timbavati Game Reserve. Your guide from the safari lodge thereafter retrieves you from the bush tavern and transports you to the treehouse camp within Klaserie Private Nature Reserve.
Upon our arrival at the exclusive safari camp, lunch is provided, after which we commence our initial exhilarating game drives. Our game drive seeks the Big 5 and numerous other wildlife species present in Klaserie Game Reserve. We return to the eco-camp after nightfall, use a spotlight to seek nocturnal fauna.
Upon our return to the eco safari camp, there is an opportunity to refresh before drinks and supper, presented in authentic African safari fashion. Guests dine together in a lantern-illuminated boma surrounding a large campfire beneath the stars before retiring to their delightful treehouses.
Day 2: Safari in Greater Kruger National Park – South Africa
In accordance with custom on African safaris, we rise early in the morning. Following coffee and a modest breakfast at the treehouse camp, we embarked on our morning game drive in an open-sided safari vehicle.
The remarkable sights and sounds of the African bush at dawn must be witnessed to be fully appreciated. This period is optimal for seeing wildlife, as animals exhibit heightened activity during this time of day. Animals are typically located in waterholes, partaking in early morning hydration or foraging in adjacent foliage. As the day begins to warm, the wildlife seeks refuge in the shade for a respite. We return to camp at 09:00 for a welcome breakfast. An optional bush walk with skilled, trained guides and Shangaan trackers follows.
This is an excellent opportunity to experience authentic Africa – the visuals, the auditory elements, and the fragrances. The guides possess extensive experience and are eager to offer their ideas. Prior to the evening game drive, you may choose to unwind at camp, engage in reading, enjoy a swim in the pool, and soak up the sun.
Following a light lunch, we go on a late afternoon to evening game drive in Greater Kruger Park. As the sun sets, we pause for refreshments and nibbles, after which our tracker leads us in pursuit of nocturnal wildlife with a bright floodlight. This is the season for observing leopards, aardvarks, bat-eared foxes, and hyenas.
The restricted quantity of campgrounds in the Klaserie Nature Reserve guarantees a minimal amount of guests, allowing for a high likelihood of exclusive access to the game reserve. The animals have acclimated to the safari vehicles, permitting us to safely approach within 5 to 10 meters of them. Upon our return to the secluded treehouse camp, there is an opportunity for a beverage at the bar prior to dinner being served at 20:00. Following dinner, we convene around the campfire beneath serene African skies to recount the day’s experiences.
