Days 2 and 3: Bush Camp and Timbavati Reserve – Greater Kruger
The subsequent two days are dedicated to visiting Timbavati, a prestigious private nature reserve, and unwinding at the secluded eco-camp. Both days adhere to a similar itinerary, comprising two game viewing events, all meals, and morning snacks and refreshments. Meal timings may be adjusted marginally to accommodate extraordinary wildlife observations and weather conditions, rendering the scheme adaptable.
Early mornings provide optimal conditions for game viewing, prompting us to rise at 5:00 during summer and 5:30 in winter on both days. Following a brief coffee or tea and a delectable light snack, we proceed into the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve accompanied by the expert ranger and tracker. The guides lead us in pursuit of the Big Five (lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant, and rhinoceros) and other sizable creatures, including giraffes and African wild dogs. Alternatively, we may proceed with a game walk, contingent upon favorable weather conditions and a majority vote from the group in support of walking. This is an amazing method to observe large mammals in their natural habitat and an excellent opportunity to examine flora, avifauna, smaller fauna, reptiles, and insects closely.
Upon returning from our morning expedition of Greater Kruger, we partake in breakfast, which is served at approximately 9:00 AM (9:30 AM during winter). You are then at liberty to relax at the private camp and relish the experience of being in nature. Rest in your reed rondavel or recline in a hammock, refresh in the pool, and absorb the tranquility of seclusion. A light lunch is served at approximately 13:30, followed by additional leisure time to observe wildlife at the waterhole from the deck, read a book, take a sleep, or enjoy a refreshing beverage at the bar.
As the temperature diminishes, we embark on a game drive in the animal-abundant Timbavati, providing exceptional close-range wildlife observations without crowds. The afternoon drive commences at approximately 16:00 during summer and 15:30 in winter, concluding after dusk. We pause for sundowners to observe the sunset over the tranquil and untamed African savannahs. As the hues diminish from the sky and darkness supplants the warm glow of the setting sun, we return to camp.
Upon returning to camp, the soft illumination of lanterns, candles, and solar lamps greets us, and a delectable dinner is presented in the traditional boma or eating room. Evenings are dedicated to unwinding by the campfire in the boma, conversing at the bar, and stargazing from the deck. Recline at night in your cozy bed, attuned to the sounds of nature, a realm distinct from contemporary existence.

The lodge is constantly lauded for its exquisite meals and exceptional service. WiFi is typically accessible during the day, and charging stations are located in the gift shop.
The bush camp comprises 10 reed-and-thatch huts (rondavels) and a secluded treehouse situated approximately 2.5 kilometers from the main camp. Game walks may be organized during your visit, contingent upon weather conditions and group agreement. Extended game walks are undertaken in lieu of one of the game drives, while shorter walks may be incorporated into the morning game drives during the return to camp. The rangers are equipped for your protection, as Timbavati is home to formidable predators and sizable herbivores that may pose a threat.
About Timbavati Game Reserve
Timbavati Game Reserve has unfenced borders with Kruger National Park, constituting a segment of the Greater Kruger Park, which spans 20,000,000 hectares of wilderness. Timbavati, one of the oldest, largest, and most renowned private game reserves in Greater Kruger, is among the premier game viewing sites in the nation. The reserve has around 53,392 hectares (534 km²) of open savannahs and forests, home to over 40 mammal species, 360 bird species, and a diverse assortment of reptiles, insects, plants, and fish. The lack of fencing allows wildlife and birds to traverse freely within Timbavati, Kruger, and adjacent private reserves, leading to increased diversity and healthier populations.
The Big Five of Africa (lion, leopard, elephant, rhinoceros, and buffalo) can frequently be observed at close proximity in Timbavati. Lions are the most renowned of the Big Five in Timbavati, particularly due to the globally recognized uncommon subspecies of white lions found in the region. Timbavati Game Reserve hosts several predators, including cheetahs, jackals, caracals, wildcats, spotted hyenas, and endangered African wild dogs. The herbivores comprise many antelope species, including kudu, sable, roan, nyala, eland, reedbuck, klipspringer, waterbuck, wildebeest, and impala. Giraffes, zebras, warthogs, and hippos, together with pangolins, aardwolves, porcupines, and honey badgers, are also observable.
Self-drive safaris and day visitors are prohibited in Timbavati, resulting in a less congested, more regulated, and higher-quality game viewing experience. Entry to Timbavati is limited to patrons residing at a select few esteemed lodges located across the game reserve. This limited access reduces visitor numbers, ensuring a unique and more private game viewing experience. Game drives are led by the expert guides of the exclusive lodges, guaranteeing exemplary safari etiquette and reverence for wildlife in Timbavati.
