Comprehensive Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi to Lake Nakuru – Kenya

This economical Lake Nakuru and Masai Mara safari departs from Nairobi in the morning, proceeding north via the Great Rift Valley.  We traverse stunning landscapes in the Rift Valley en route to Lake Nakuru National Park.

Post-lunch, we commence an afternoon game drive in Lake Nakuru Park, seeking its many wildlife and avian species.

This lake in the Great Rift Valley is home to more than 400 avian species, including the Great White Pelican, Grey-crested Helmet-shrike, African Spoonbill, Yellow-billed Stork, and Long-crested Eagle.  Lake Nakuru is occasionally frequented by congregations of migrating pink flamingos, creating a remarkable spectacle when the birds assemble.

Lake Nakuru National Park serves as a crucial wildlife sanctuary for several endangered species in Africa, particularly black and white rhinoceroses and Rothschild’s giraffes.  The game reserve hosts lions, waterbuck, buffalo, and baboons, which we monitor during our game drive.

We will eat dinner and stay overnight in en-suite accommodations at a pleasant lodge in Lake Nakuru Park.

Day 2: From Lake Nakuru to Maasai Mara – Kenya

The second day of the 4 Day Lake Nakuru & Masai Mara Safari (Luxury Camping) commences with breakfast at our lodging adjacent to the lake.  Subsequently, we resume our journey towards our next game-viewing location in Kenya, the renowned Masai Mara Game Reserve.

We traverse the picturesque Great Rift Valley, reaching the safari camp adjacent to Masai Mara in time for lunch.  Subsequently, we go on an exhilarating afternoon-to-evening wildlife drive in the Masai Mara Reserve.

Subsequently, we return to the tented camp adjacent to the Masai Mara Game Reserve for dinner and our overnight accommodation.

Day 3: Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya

Today is designated for wildlife observation in Kenya’s premier conservation area, the Masai Mara National Reserve.

Our morning and afternoon game drives seek Africa’s Big Five and the multitude of other animals residing in this expansive Kenyan game reserve.  On clear days, the Mara presents magnificent orange-hued sunsets that yield stunning photographs.  The Mara Reserve encompasses 1510 km² of expansive vistas and abundant riparian woods, including the winding courses of the Mara and Talek rivers in southwestern Kenya.  A single glance suffices to elucidate its allure; it epitomizes the vast savannah, teeming with remarkable species.

In the expansive Masai Mara Park, one may observe a plethora of species, including Masai giraffes, baboons, warthogs, bat-eared foxes, grey jackals, spotted hyenas, topis, impalas, hartebeests, and wildebeests.  Elephants, buffalo, zebras, and hippopotamuses are present in substantial quantities.  Lions are frequently observed basking post-feeding or scanning the plains for their subsequent meal.  Cheetahs and leopards are elusive yet rather prevalent.

The paramount event is unequivocally the yearly wildebeest migration, known as the Great Migration, occurring in July and August when millions of large herbivores migrate north from the Serengeti in pursuit of more verdant pastures, subsequently returning south in October.

Hot air balloon excursions provide a remarkable perspective of the wildlife-rich savannah grasslands.  These Masai Mara balloon excursions can be organized for an additional fee.

We will spend the night at the same safari camp located in a private conservancy adjacent to Masai Mara.

Day 4: Masai Mara to Nairobi, Kenya

The concluding morning of our Kenya Safari commences with breakfast at our opulent tented camp in the exclusive Masai Mara Conservancy.

Subsequently, we return to the vibrant city of Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, arriving in the afternoon.  This Budget 4 Day Lake Nakuru & Masai Mara Safari (Luxury Camping) concludes upon arrival in Nairobi.

Explanation of the Great Migration of Wildebeest

The Wildebeest Great Migration is a seasonal phenomenon.  As a natural wildlife occurrence, it is dynamic and erratic.  Consequently, the observation of the Great Migration cannot be assured.

The wildebeest and other wild herbivores migrate between the Masai Mara in Kenya and the Serengeti in Tanzania.  These herds traverse an extensive circular path of approximately 1200 miles (1931 kilometers).  It is a perpetual migration of wildlife observable in various regions at distinct periods throughout the year.  During some parts of this annual migration, the animals either disperse or decelerate, whilst at other times, the migration accelerates, resulting in larger and denser herds.  The Wildebeest Great Migration not only differs by location and season but also fluctuates annually in the travel of these substantial animal herds.
