When is the best time of the year to Track Mountain Gorillas?

Mountain gorillas in Uganda are tracked in the Tropical rain forests of Bwindi Impenetrable National park having the most endangered species and Mgahinga National Park (Southwest Uganda) and Volcanoes National park in Northeast of Rwanda. Gorilla Trekking in both countries is done year through.

Low season: this season is known for heavy rains in months of March, October & November, this leading to difficulty in hiking & tracking in the Impenetrable woods, making the trails too slippery, muddy. must have a 4wheel drive to make it to the Gorillas. So with the above some trackers tend to be comfortable with tracking in this season. During this season Gorilla permits cost the same as the high season ($1500 in Rwanda & $600 in Uganda). Accommodation costs are more favourable because the occupancy rate is low hence attracting budget trackers. Gorilla Tracking (both Uganda & Rwanda) in low season brings you to the best experience since the number of trackers are few hence making the gorilla families less congested by number of visitors.                               

High season: during the dry seasons of June, July, August, September and part of October and December plus February. Here is less rainfall or no rains at all & the conditions are good and favorable for Gorilla tracking. High demand for the Gorilla permits ($1500 in Rwanda & $600 in Uganda). Mountain Gorillas are found in the temperate weathered regions with raised landscape, meaning the climate remains cool throughout the year making it perfect weather for length tracks.

Kwita Izina ceremony:-Occurrence of this ceremony in Rwanda is another interesting time for one to visit the Volcanoes National Park, there is no charge but you able to tour in the park same time being entertained.

How many days should I book for my Gorilla Tracking Tour

Should I hire a porter for my Gorilla Tracking?

Hiring a porter relieves your Gorilla Tracking session, helps you carry your bags and this gives you a lot of focus and concentration on the endangered Gorillas and you meanwhile move freely with no hardships, can take hold of your hand through the risker parts in the forest because these grounds at times tend to be muddy slippery to pass through. Hiring a porter is an indirect form of supporting local livelihoods. A porter is hired for about $10-$15 for a full day and its surely worth the service.

 Am I Guaranteed to the Gorillas?

Mountain Gorilla Permits once taken or sold are not refundable unless there is a medical reason of which it will need you to have a medical certificate. However much as you could have a Gorilla tracking permit, it doesn’t mean you will see these gentle giants but will at least have a 95% chance to.
