Day 3: Full-Day Cape Peninsula Excursion

Your local tour guide will pick you up from our hotel in Cape Town after breakfast for your full-day Cape Peninsula Tour.

Atlantic Seaboard – Clifton to Hout Bay and Chapman’s Peak
The guided Cape Peninsula Tour commences with a picturesque drive along the lively Atlantic Seaboard. Observe the renowned beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay while traversing the serpentine coastal road at the base of the Twelve Apostles mountains. Navigate across Camps Bay to observe the fashionable pubs, restaurants, and hotels in this stylish coastal locale.

We proceed to the charming fishing community of Hout Bay, across breathtaking coastal cliffs. This suburb of Cape Town is frequently referred to by locals as the ‘Republic of Hout Bay’ due to its independent town-like atmosphere. The quaint hamlet is renowned for its picturesque coastline, fresh seafood, and vibrant market.

In Hout Bay, one can elect to take a ferry to observe the numerous seals residing on Seal Island (at personal expense). We go from Hout Bay to Noordhoek along one of South Africa’s most scenic routes, the renowned Chapman’s Peak Drive. Known as Chappies, this globally recognized seaside route provides stunning vistas. We navigate this remarkable 9km roadway featuring 114 bends that cling to the steep coastal cliffs. During the journey, we pause at vantage places to appreciate and capture the magnificent vistas while searching for whales and dolphins in the ocean underneath.

Cape Point Nature Reserve
From Chapman’s Peak, we proceed into the untamed Cape Point Nature Reserve. This resilient wildlife reserve, situated at the southernmost point of the Cape Peninsula, is an essential attraction in Cape Town. Your guide conducts an overview of Cape Point, highlighting the renowned sights and characteristics of this distinctive location. While traversing the nature reserve, your guide will provide information regarding the distinctive animal and plant species there, including the native fynbos vegetation. Cape Point is home to more than 250 avian species, baboons, antelopes, and the Cape Mountain Zebra; remain vigilant.

Your itinerary includes a trip at the Cape of Good Hope, the southernmost western point of Africa. This location features two monuments commemorating the renowned explorers Vasco da Gama and Bartolomeu Dias, who discovered Cape Point in 1488. Traverse the vicinity of the Cape of Good Hope on foot and capture images of the striking coastline cliffs and notable monuments. Explore the lighthouse and appreciate the rugged coastline and expansive vistas of Cape Point.

Boulders Penguins and False Bay (Simon’s Town, Kalk Bay, and Muizenberg)
Departing from Cape Point, we proceed to Boulders Beach in Simon’s Town. This is the renowned Jackass penguin colony located in Cape Town. Observe them from afar while walking along the coastline or enter the protected area for a little charge (at your own expense). In the reserve, one may observe these unique penguins closely and even partake in a cold swim alongside them. Following our observation of the penguin colony, we traverse the historic suburb of Simon’s Town, home to the South African Navy. Observe the frigates and submarines moored in the harbor below, together with the historic colonial architecture of Simon’s Town.

Subsequently, we proceed down the coastal road, vigilant for whales in False Bay during the whale season (June to November). Subsequently, we shall explore the picturesque coastal village of Kalk Bay. Kalk Bay, formerly a modest fishing village, is now a popular tourist destination for both locals and visitors. We take a brief intermission for a modest lunch and meander through the charming cobblestone lanes of Kalk Bay, located on the hillside between the rugged mountains and the expansive sea. The primary thoroughfare is adorned with eccentric boutiques offering distinctive antiques, costumes, artworks, literature, apparel, and further items, alongside charming ice cream and coffee establishments, as well as outstanding dining venues. Following Kalk Bay, we proceed to the vibrant Muizenberg to observe this renowned surfing destination and its diverse assembly of residents and tourists.

Return to Cape Town City through the Southern Suburbs
Departing from the shore of False Bay, we proceed inland to the verdant southern suburbs of Cape Town. A relaxed drive returns you to Cape Town, where your guide deposits you at the Waterfront Signature Lux Hotel at approximately 18:00.
