 Day 1: Big 5 Cape Town Safari to Aquila Game Reserve 

The Cape Town Safari tour commences and concludes in the metropolis of Cape Town. You are collected from a pre-arranged pick-up point in Cape Town at the crack of dawn this morning. We departed for Aquila Game Reserve at approximately 6:45 a.m., which is a mere two-hour drive from Cape Town.

We traverse the Cape Winelands, South Africa’s most renowned wine-growing region, and majestic mountain ranges as we travel northeast in our air-conditioned conveyance vehicle. We arrive at Aquila Private Game Reserve in the semi-arid Southern Karoo. This is one of the few Big Five safari destinations in the malaria-free Western Cape Province and the closest Big 5 game reserve to Cape Town. Welcome beverages are served upon our arrival at Aquila Game Reserve at approximately 9:00 a.m. A delectable breakfast buffet is subsequently served. Juice, coffee, and a variety of infusions comprise breakfast.

We commence our thrilling Big Five game drive in an open-sided 4×4 safari vehicle following breakfast. A professional game ranger conducts the wildlife drive, which typically lasts between two and three hours. Your seasoned guide will captivate you with captivating information regarding the local flora and fauna, as well as stories of the African bush and its untamed inhabitants. Your guide will provide answers to inquiries and identify noteworthy occurrences as you explore the Big Five and the diverse array of wildlife in Aquila.

The wildlife drive concludes at the lodge, where a buffet lunch is served. Following a leisurely brunch, you are at liberty to unwind at the lodge and take advantage of the exceptional amenities. Browse the curio shop, stroll through the labyrinth, play a game of giant chess, or take a refreshing plunge in the expansive swimming pool. Cozy up by one of the log fires in the lounge and bar areas on chilly winter days. Alternatively, you may participate in an optional (pre-booked) activity at an additional fee. There are a variety of options available, including thrilling quad cycle and horseback safaris and pampering spa treatments.

Beginning at approximately 16:00, we embark on a two-hour journey to Cape Town, which is characterized by breathtaking scenery. You will be transferred to your post-safari accommodation or pre-arranged drop-off point upon your return to Cape Town between 18h00 and 19h00, marking the conclusion of your Big 5 Cape Town Safari excursion.

About the Aquila Game Reserve, which is located near Cape Town

Named after the endangered black eagle, the Verreaux eagle (Aquila verreauxii), Aquila is a privately owned game park. The game reserve is situated on the outskirts of the Southern Karoo region, in close proximity to the small community of Touws River. Consequently, it is a malaria-free safari destination. Africa’s Big Five and a diverse array of other wildlife species, such as wildebeest, giraffe, cheetah, hippo, zebra, oryx, and other antelopes, inhabit this 10,000-hectare sanctuary.

Aquila Game Reserve is an optimal Big 5 safari destination for travelers visiting Cape Town, as it is situated only two hours’ journey from the city.

Additionally, Aquila Game Reserve is home to an animal rescue center that offers a safe haven for animals that are unable to be reintroduced into the wild. The wildlife refuge center also functions as a temporary residence for wild animals that require care and rehabilitation prior to their release into the wild. The facility is not accessible to the public, and human interaction is strictly limited. Black eagles, rhinos, cheetahs, lions, and other species have been the subject of conservation and rehabilitation initiatives.
