Uganda the Pearl of Africa is endowed with a variety of attractions making it one of the best tourist destinations in Africa and the world at large. Kazinga channel is one of the Uganda’s tourist attractions situated in one of the prominent and most visited national parks in Uganda – Queen Elizabeth National park. Kazinga channel is a wide 32-kilometre long natural channel in Uganda, Kasese District, that connects two waterbodies together that is lake Edward and lake George. On the Eastern side of Kazinga Channel, there is Lake George which Is smaller with a depth of 2.4metres (250sq.km) supported by the streams from the Rwenzori mountains which is north of the lake. The out flow of lake George is through the kazinga channel draining into lake Edward situated in the Western part of the channel covering approximately 2000km2. Kazinga channel is registered and protected through Ramsar sites rights of conservation of wetlands in Africa.

Boat cruise

This is the top attractions at the channel and one of the famous launch trips in Uganda. The boat cruise exposes a traveler to an opportunity of viewing a variety of animal species like elephants, hippos, buffalos, crocodiles and also a hundred of water birds.

The population of the hippos at Kazinga channel in Queen Elizabeth national park is one of the three highest in the world. Besides the highest number of hippos, Kazinga attracts a various number of different animals like elephants, a numerous crocodiles, antelopes, buffalos, and on lucky days one can even spot lions drinking by the shores of the channel.

Bird species

Kazinga channel attracts a various number of beautiful and colorful bird species including the flamingos and pelicans.

Best time to visit Kazinga channel

Kazinga channel can be visited any time throughout the year but the best time is during the dry seasons that is June to September and December to February.

How to get to Kazinga channel.

The channel can be accessed using both air transport and road transport. It is situated in the northern part of Queen Elizabeth National park.  From Kampala to Queen Elizabeth national park, it is about 7-8hours drive via Masaka- Mbarara, Fort portal, Kasese roads. When traveling to the channel, Mweya peninsular is where the boat cruise starts from. The peninsular is 20km west of kasese-mbarara road.
