9 Days Uganda Cycling — Gorillas and Wildlife: Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe

Upon arrival at Entebbe international park, go through the migration process and thereafter, you will be met by our company representative who will pick you up and drive you to you to hotel where you will spend the rest of the evening and relax from the long flight as you prepare for the adventure ahead. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Transfer to Kibale forest National Park/ Cycling from Fort portal to Kibale forest National Park

Wake up for morning breakfast and thereafter, check out and meet with your driver guide who will transfer you to Kibale forest National Park driving the lush country side to Fort portal town where you will have your lunch at the mountains of the moon hotel. Then you will take bicycle to transfer to Kibale forest National Park. The ride offers sunning views of the countryside, tea plantations and more. The ride is 40km however, no need to ride the entire journey since the safari vehicle will be right behind you incase you need to stop riding. On arrival at the lodge, check in for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking and afternoon cycling in Bigodi wetland

After morning breakfast at the lodge, the driver guide will transfer you to the park headquarters where you will attend briefing on the dos and don’ts of chimpanzee trekking. Thereafter, you will be accompanied by the ranger to begin the search in the forest. Kibale forest is famous home to over 13 primate species with the chimpanzees as their main attractions. The trek through the forest takes about 2-3 hours before you set eyes on the chimpanzees. Once you find them, you will be allowed one hour with them as you observe then go about their daily activities. After you will return to the start point of the trek then to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, you will go for bicycle ride along the Bigodi wetland Sanctuary where you will spot several monkeys, wide array of bird species, baboons as well as the chimps, who are frequent visitors. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Destination: Kibale Forest National Park 

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 4: Transfer from Kibale to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Rise up early and have morning breakfast by 7:00am and thereafter, check out of the lodge and transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The drive time takes about 3 hours. However, you may opt for aide along a 21km stretch with stunning views of the volcano crater, farms and local homesteads then the time will extend. While riding, you will arrive in Kibale Kasese to fort portal highway, we can then resume with the drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will be arriving in the park in the afternoon, you will go on evening game drive to visit the salt mines and craters where you will spot several mammal species. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Destination: Queen Elizabeth National Park 

Day 5: Game drive/ Boat cruise

Wake up to the sound of the bird chirping and start the day early enough before sunrise to catch up with the early risers before they retire in their hide outs. The game drive takes you through the Kasenyi plains and the queen Miles rewarding you with great wildlife sightings like the lions, elephants, buffalos, Uganda Kobs, several species of antelopes among others. Return to the lodge for your late breakfast and lunch.
In the afternoon, you will go kazinga channel boat cruise boosting with the highest concentration of hippos in the park as well as other animals and bird species seen at the shores. After, you will return to the lodge for evening relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

Wake up and have morning breakfast, after, check out and transfer to Bwindi driving through famous Isha sha sector, be on the look out for the tree climbing lions among other animals. Continue and drive to the park with enroute lunch arriving in the afternoon. The drive time takes about 5-6hours. Check in to the lodge and spend the rest of the evening at leisure.

Day 7: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Forest

Have morning breakfast ad with your packed lunch at the lodge, transfer to the park headquarters for briefing from the rangers about the rules and regulation for gorilla trekking. After you will be divided in groups of 8 members and assigned gorilla group you will be tracking. Accompanied by the ranger guide to begin the search in the forest, the trek may last for 2 hours to three quarters of the day depending on the location and how far the gorillas have moved. Once you have found them, you will be allowed one hour to spend with them as you observe them go about their daily activities, take photos, record videos and thereafter, return to the park headquarters where you will be awarded with the certificate of participation in gorilla trekking. Then to the lodge where you will spend the rest of the evening at leisure.

Day 8: Transfer to Lake Mburo and evening cycling

Have morning breakfast and right after, check out of the lodge and transfer to lake Mburo National Park, the drive time is only 5 hours, so you will arrive at the park in time for lunch. After lunch in the afternoon, you will go cycling through the park which will offer you an opportunity to see animals like the Zebras, cape buffalos, elephants, Kobs, Impalas among others.

Day 9: Game drive and transfer back to Entebbe

Wake up for morning breakfast and go on morning game drive best time to catch up with the early risers, this is small park but has got variety of mammal species and after, you will exit the park and drive back to Kampala. You will have lunch in Mbarara town as you continue to Kampala. You will have another stopover at the equator for photo shoot and to witness a great experience of standing in two hemispheres at the same time. Em bark on your journey, arriving in Kampala in the evening, the driver guide will drop you off at the airport for your departure flight back home at your preferred drop off point.
